From pre-race jitters that steal your focus to mid-race mental battles and doubts that derail your pacing, the psychological side of running can be the toughest to conquer.
As a sport psychologist specialising in runners, I can work with you to develop the mental skills and resilience to overcome these hurdles, perform consistently, and enjoy your running.
Our collaborative work would be guided by a simple yet powerful framework:
- CLARITY: Understanding your unique ‘why’ and what you truly want from your running.
- PREPARE: Co-developing robust mental strategies and skills for training and competition.
- PERFORM: Learning to access your best, consistently and with enjoyment, when it matters most.
Working Together: Strengthening Your Mental Game for Running
My role isn’t to give you a one-size-fits-all set of ‘tools.’
Instead, we’ll work collaboratively, drawing on your existing strengths and insights, to help you navigate the mental side of running more effectively.
Our conversations, informed by solution-focused principles, will empower you to:
- Gain Deeper Clarity on Your Running Journey:
- Explore what truly motivates you beyond PBs, and connect your running to your core values.
- Define what ‘success’ and ‘enjoyment’ genuinely look like for you in your running.
- Identify your unique mental strengths as a runner and how to leverage them further.
- Develop Personalised Strategies for Key Running Challenges:
- Co-create effective approaches for managing pre-race nerves and performance anxiety, turning them into focused readiness.
- Explore ways to keep focus and motivation during tough mid-race moments, building on what already works for you.
- Build personalised techniques for building robust self-confidence that aligns with your experiences and goals.
- Discover new perspectives for navigating setbacks, injuries, and performance plateaus with resilience.
- Cultivate a More Empowered & Resilient Runner’s Mindset:
- Learn to better understand your thoughts and emotions around running, without letting them dictate your performance.
- Develop the skills to refocus effectively after distractions or mistakes.
- Build sustainable mental habits that support not just your performance, but also your overall enjoyment and well-being as a runner.
Every runner is different. Our work will be focused on uncovering what strategies and mindsets will best support your specific goals, challenges, and context.
